Options to buy with a small deposit

You may have heard you need at least 20% as a deposit to buy a home. But the market has changed and there are plenty of ways to buy with less and not pay additional fees. Here are a few options:

  • The First Home Guarantee Scheme allows eligible borrowers to purchase with as little as a 5% deposit without having to pay Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI).
  • Using a Guarantorlike a parent or close family member. They can offer their own property as additional security for your loan, helping you borrow more and also avoid LMI.
  • Buy with a partner, friend or sibling, sharing ownership and splitting the required deposit. This can be a great way to combine resources and get into the market faster (and there are some Government incentives available for that too!
