How much deposit do I need for my first home?

The short answer? Not always as much as you think. While a 20% deposit is ideal to avoid Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI), there are plenty of smart ways to get into your first home with less, and I’ll help you explore them. Everyone’s situation is different! 

• Government incentives for first home buyers that allow you to buy with as little as 5% (like the First Home Guarantee).
• Guarantor loans, where a family member helps secure your loan, so you may not need a deposit at all.
• Buying with a partner or friend to combine savings and borrowing power.
• Paying Lenders Mortgage Insurance, which adds a cost to your loan, but could help you get in sooner.
